FAQs

Chiropractic is founded upon the vitalistic principle that the body is a self-healing organism.
Chiropractors locate, analyze, and adjust the misaligned areas of the spine to achieve optimal nervous system function.
The objective of the adjustment is to reduce stress to the nervous system caused by spinal and cranial misalignments. This allows the body to perform optimally and improve the potential for healing and wellness.
-
An adjustment will not typically hurt. Some patients may experience soreness after the first adjustment when we correct misalignments that have been present for months or even years!
-
As long as you are putting stress on your spine, you will need to do something about it!
Chiropractic is a lifestyle choice. When patients see how great they feel after getting adjusted, they want to continue to stay healthy for life.

While I have a strong passion for pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care, I also specialize in treating athletes, active individuals, and everyday people dealing with common issues like back pain. I enjoy working with patients of all ages - from newborns just days old to seniors - helping each person achieve optimal health and wellness at every stage of life.

Yes! Lumina Chiropractic is in-network with several major insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), United Healthcare (UHC), MODA, First Choice Health, and Molina. I can submit claims directly on your behalf for covered chiropractic services.
A note on insurance coverage
Most insurance plans cover a limited number of chiropractic visits and tend to focus on short-term, acute care, think a lower back strain or whiplash from an accident. If you're looking for ongoing wellness care, prenatal chiropractic, or pediatric care, your plan may not cover those visits after the initial acute phase is complete.
I want you to know this upfront so there are no surprises.
Affordable care with a Time of Service Discount
For patients paying out of pocket, I offer a Time of Service Discount to make consistent, quality care accessible for your whole family. This is especially helpful for:
Wellness and maintenance care
Prenatal chiropractic
Pediatric adjustments
Athletes and active lifestyles
Not in my network? You still have options.
If I'm not in-network with your plan, you can still see me at the Time of Service rate. I'll provide you with a Superbill, a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
Out-of-network benefits vary by plan, and reimbursement isn't guaranteed, but I'm happy to give you everything you need to file the claim.
Not sure what your plan covers?
I recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card and asking specifically about chiropractic benefits, your deductible, and any visit limits. If you have questions, feel free to reach out before your appointment and we'll help you figure it out.

Yes, and this is one of my favorite questions to answer because I know it comes with real concern, and you deserve a real answer.
During pregnancy
Prenatal chiropractic care is safe, gentle, and well-supported by research. Adjustments during pregnancy are modified specifically for your changing body. I use techniques that avoid any pressure on your abdomen, and I have specialized training in prenatal chiropractic care including the Webster Technique, which focuses on balancing the pelvis and supporting the surrounding ligaments and muscles.
Many pregnant patients come in for low back pain, hip pain, round ligament discomfort, or sciatica. But beyond symptom relief, keeping your pelvis balanced and your nervous system functioning well throughout pregnancy supports your body as it prepares for labor and birth.
Chiropractic care is generally considered safe throughout all three trimesters. As always, if you have a high-risk pregnancy or specific medical concerns, I encourage you to loop in your OB or midwife as well. I love working as part of your care team.
For babies
Babies can see a chiropractor, and yes, it is very safe. I want to be clear about what this actually looks like, because it is nothing like what most people picture when they think of chiropractic.
Adjustments for infants use no more pressure than you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato. There is no twisting, no popping, no cracking. It is gentle, specific fingertip contact designed to release tension in the spine and nervous system.
The birth process, even a smooth one, places significant forces on a baby's neck, head, and spine. Many newborns carry tension from positioning in the womb or from labor and delivery. This can show up as difficulty latching, head tilting to one side, fussiness, trouble sleeping, or reflux-like symptoms.
I have specific training in caring for newborns and infants, and many of my tiniest patients are just days or weeks old. Most babies relax immediately during their adjustment and often fall asleep on the table.
If you have questions about whether your baby is a good candidate for chiropractic care, reach out. I'm always happy to talk it through before you book.
